Maoisti attaccano areoporto Lukla - voli sospesi

Nella notte fra il 3 e 4 febbraio, guerriglieri maoisti hanno attaccato l'areoporto di Lukla, punto di partenza per il trekking all'Everest.

Meanwhile, our correspondent in Biratnagar says that the Maoists have carried out an attack on Lukla airport. The Maoists reportedly launched the attack at around 11 p.m. Sunday night, exploding at least three bombs around the airport.

A hotel owner near the airport told Kantipur Online that the old control tower of Luka airport had been slightly damaged after Maoists exploded a "pressure cooker bomb". There were however, no other damages. Flights to and from airport were suspended for the entire day today.

Following Maoists attacks on Lukla airport and town on 3/4 February, all civilian flights have been cancelled and there is no indication of when they might re-start. Although the Maoist attacks were not directed at tourists, we strongly advise all British nationals against travel to the Solukhumbu until this present situation has been resolved, and Lukla airport is again functioning normally.
